During the Boundless Ideas Space from 24-26 June we presented Action Now: Creative Resolutions on The Climate Emergency, a group exhibition featuring original artistic interpretations of the climate emergency. Inspired by the emotive placards used by demonstrators, we invited a group of multidisciplinary London creatives to propose creative resolutions on How To Save The Planet.
The result was a vibrant mixed media show with contributions by visual artists, Tigerlily Taylor, Jack Laver & Rosa Burgess. Seminal DJ and cultural icon, Princess Julia. Fashion designer David Koma and documentary photographer David Richardson.
Together, the pieces formed a stimulating visual manifesto and an open dialogue on the climate emergency between artist and audience.
Ten limited edition fine art prints of each artwork have been produced and are available to purchase for £50 each. The proceeds from the sales will go towards future activist community workshops in a partnership between Boundless Theatre and Friends of The Earth. The workshops aim to engage and inspire 15-25-year-olds to make positive change happen in their communities and create a safe space for young people to share their concerns about the environment.
The artists:
Tigerlily Taylor
London born, Tigerlily Taylor, is a graffiti artist, illustrator and writer. Having read English at Sussex University, much of Tigerlily’s creative work focuses on sustainability, environmental issues as well as her love for hip hop, grime and urban culture. Tiger’s creativity extends beyond her writing and art, having designed an
acclaimed lingerie collection with Bluebella as well as shot with many of
the industry photographic greats including Mario Sorrenti and Rankin.
Jack Laver
Jack Laver is a London based multimedia artist. Laver’s work plays with the shifting dynamic between instinctual, organic forms and the interruption of the predetermined. Translucent skin like sheets adorn the walls of his studio, all spawning swirls of black ink and rusty orange bleach; they could be decaying, they could be growing – they’re dirty but serene. Always paradoxical in it’s tension between the natural and the un-natural, Laver’s work transports you to an enveloping realm of bleak mysticism.
Rosa Burgess
Rosa Burgess is a 31-year-old self-taught mixed-media collage artist, from Lewisham, London. She primarily uses analogue and digital forms of Collage as her main medium, using old magazines, found objects and painting to play around with texture too. Her work embraces a contrasted, bold, and saturated aesthetic, using subtle yet suggestive imagery to explore themes of dualities and contradictions that are common in society today.
Princess Julia
Counter cultural conduit, DJ, artist, writer, muse, model and style commentator & wearer. Princess Julia’s interests lie in the realms of expression-her own and the creative community around her.
David Koma
David Koma is a London-based fashion designer who has become synonymous with the ultra body-contouring silhouette, creating sculptural statement dresses inspired by the feminine form. Alongside the cocktail dresses that propelled the designer onto an international stage, the David Koma offering has expanded to include a full range of options from precise daywear separates to beautifully tailored outerwear and show-stopping red carpet gowns. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, David Koma discovered his penchant for dress design at the young age of eight. David studied Fine Art in St. Petersburg, showing his first collection at the age of 15. In 2003, David moved to London to take up a place at the prestigious Central Saint Martins, graduating with a distinction in MA Fashion in April 2009 under the mentorship of the late Professor Louise Wilson, OBE. Straight after graduation David Koma launched his eponymous ready-to-wear brand and has been a participant of London Fashion Week ever since.
David Richardson
David Richardson is a London based photographer and director. David’s work draws influence and documents the eccentric characters and cultures of London. His photographs have been featured in Dazed and Confused, Document Journal, i-D and Italian Vogue and exhibited in London, Paris, Berlin.
