Rewire: Meet National Youth Theatre

13 February 2024

National Youth Theatre are bringing ‘Empowered Storytelling’ to Rewire: take control of your narrative with story telling and devising.

Created for and by young people, Rewire is an exciting day of workshops and positive conversations exploring mental health on Saturday 24 February. The day will be filled with participatory experiences, projects and workshops to ensure you leave feeling uplifted and rewired.

Get to know the National Youth Theatre

Tell us about you, who are you and what do you do?

National Youth Theatre is a pioneering youth arts charity that nurtures creative expression, personal well-being and skills development, engaging thousands of young people aged 11- 30 around the UK every year.

I am a Young person Arts & Theatre Practitioner, specialising in Safeguarding, Mental Health & Wellbeing and Trauma Informed Practice. I work for NYT as the Playing Up and Wellbeing Project Manager.

Share five words that describe your work around mental health…

Empower, Safety, Collaboration, Kindness, Growth

Why do you think conversations around youth mental health are so important?

Young people should be given a platform to discuss their mental health needs in a safe and supportive environment. They deserve to be listened to and respected and I believe storytelling can be a creative tool for youth voices.

Share a bit about what you’re bringing to REWIRE?

This workshop will include drama games, ensemble-building exercises, free writing, improvisation, and creative storytelling. Together we will be exploring what it means to ‘take control’ of our narratives and empower ourselves through storytelling. How can we use drama and performance to feel together?
You are welcome to engage with this workshop however feels most comfortable for you and all exercises are optional.  We will have young people present in this workshop with experience in drama who will also be taking part.

Join us and the National Youth Theatre at Rewire on Saturday 24 February at Stanley Arts
