Ideas Space: 26th June

Saturday 26th June 2021 was the final day of activities and was dedicated to music and the launch of Boundless Theatre’s first EP.  Alive, is the title track of 2022 Boundless show Addictive Beat written by Dawn King.

Executive Director of Boundless, Ine Van Riet discussed the crossover of music and theatre with award-winning writer Dawn King and music producer Anikdote.

Addictive Beat – Collaborating on Music for Theatre

Music Producer Anikdote, Writer Dawn King and Boundless Executive Director, Ine Van Riet held a conversation about collaborating on music for theatre and discussed the process behind making the Addictive Beat EP.

Making Music 

Music producer and DJ Anikdote hosted an informal chat with his collaborator Adam Ward on getting started in music, making a track and demonstrated how to make a track.

 

The Boundless Ideas Space was made possible thanks to Arts Council England’s Culture Recovery Fund and kicked off Boundless’ ambitions to engage young people in new ways around culture across the country in a series of spaces.

Rob Drummer Director

Rob joined Boundless Theatre in July 2016 as Artistic Director and become sole CEO in 2019.  Rob leads the organisation including commissioning new work and developing artists and projects as well as leading strategy for engaging young adults across the artistic programme.  Currently working with Arts Council England on the strategic development of the Impacts & Insights Toolkit, Rob is passionate about new ways to innovate around more audiences engaging with theatre and better understanding the impact of the arts on young adults specifically.

For Boundless, Rob has directed NATIVES by Glenn Waldron (2017), CONFIDENCE by Judy Upton (2018), RADIO ELUSIA by Nina Segal (2020) & ADDICTIVE BEAT (2022).

Before joining Boundless he was Associate Dramaturg at the Bush Theatre where for three and a half years he ran the Literary Department and was responsible for all playwriting work including the commissioning and development of new plays for production.  He has established partnerships with Playwrights of New York (PoNY), delivered projects with Kudos Film & Television and established a partnership with Drama Centre London and Oberon Books on the ‘Student Guide To Writing: Playwriting’.

Prior to joining the Bush Rob was the first Literary Manager for HighTide Festival Theatre where he supported the expansion of the festival, doubling the number of productions and before leaving the company directed Luke Barnes’ ‘Eisteddfod’ (Latitude), ‘Endless Poem’ (London 2012 Festival) and ‘Perish’ (HighTide & Public Theater, New York).

As a Dramaturg and Director Rob has worked with playwrights at theatres including The National Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Contact, York Theatre Royal and Theatre503. Rob was one of the first recipients of an Artists’ International Development Fund from the Arts Council and British Council and spent time working in South Africa with playwrights and theatre makers at the Baxter and Market Theatres.

Dawn King Writer

Dawn is an award-winning writer working in theatre, film, TV, VR and radio. She is currently writing THE TREES, a radical reinterpretation of The Cherry Orchard, for director Katie Mitchell at the DeutschesSchauspielhausHamburg and ADDICTIVE BEAT,a play for Boundless Theatre, UK, both planned for production in 2022.

She is also working on the feature film PIG CHILD for Delaval Film and the BFI and adapting her play FOXFINDER for the screen with Elation Pictures and the BFI. Her new play THE TRIALS will receive a German premiere at the DüsseldorferSchauspielhausin 2021 and a UK premiere in 2022, and was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.

Dawn’s previous work for the stage includes; FOXFINDER, originally produced by Papatango Theatre Company at The Finborough in 2011 and revived in a West End production at The Ambassadors in 2018; BRAVE NEW WORLD, CIPHERS and SALT.

She also co-created immersive dystopian rave DYSTOPIA987 for Manchester International Festival 2019 (a collaboration with Skepta.) For FOXFINDER, Dawn won the Royal National Theatre Foundation Playwright Award 2013, Papatango New Writing Competition2011 and Most Promising Playwright, Off West End awards 2012.

She was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize 2012 and the James Tait Black drama prize 2012. Dawn’s short film THE KARMAN LINE won 17 awards including the BIFA for Best Short and was BAFTA nominated in 2014.

Anikdote Composer

Dre Hall also known as “Anikdote” is a Producer/DJ based in London, his bass driven style of dance music has taken him across the globe with headline shows in South Korea, Australia, India, Ibiza and more. In 2020 he was a supporting Act for legendary Dance Artist “Daren Styles” after his hit releases earned him placements with Amazon prime & and BBC 1xtra.  

His songs with YouTube giant’s NoCopyrightSounds, Magic Records & Trap city have earned him over 100million online streams and 350,000 monthly Spotify listeners to date. His music has appeared in over 1.9million videos across YouTube earning him numerous coverages with dance publication EDM.COM 

Anikdote’s undeniable passion, energy and love for new music is ever present in both his productions and live sets and with several exciting music projects in the works, one can only imagine the amazing heights in which this talented producer will reach.

Adam Ward Ideas Space Speaker

Adam Ward is a session guitarist and songwriter based in London. With over 7 years of touring and performing within the music industry, he has amassed a wealth of experience both out on the road and in the studio, collaborating with established Artists from all over the world. You can hear Adam’s guitars on a multitude of genres spanning Rock, Pop, Metal, Hip-hop, Folk, Jazz, Trap, Dubstep, Future Bass, EDM and more.
